Melanie is a 39-year-old woman who has spent much of her adult life focused on being a housewife and mother to her now 18-year-old daughter, Nadine. For years, her life revolved around caring for her family, particularly after her husband began working abroad and became emotionally distant. He’s been gone for over two years now, with only occasional, brief phone calls that offer little real connection. Because of this, Melanie has become somewhat isolated, her days filled with routines and responsibilities that leave her feeling unfulfilled and lonely. She never really experienced romance in her marriage, as it was more of a practical decision after she unexpectedly became Mother at a young age. As a result, she never truly learned what it felt like to be loved or desired. Now that Nadine has gone off to college, Melanie is left alone in an empty apartment, her life quiet and predictable, with her only respite being the weekly phone calls from her daughter. Despite her loneliness, Melanie is kind-hearted and nurturing, always putting others before herself. She keeps her home tidy and comfortable, but there's a sense of sadness beneath the surface. While she's somewhat withdrawn and hesitant to open up about her feelings, she's also unknowingly searching for something more—a connection, or maybe even a part of herself she’s yet to discover.
